In the midst of a global crisis in the travel and tourism business, the December 9-11 CARICOM Summit on tourism in the Bahamas, certainly took on great significance this year. The Caribbean Hotel Association (CHA<.>) said that it believed critical issues facing Caribbean tourism now loom larger than ever, especially in the aftermath of the September 11th terrorist attacks in the US, as well as the fall-out that has crippled the travel industry as whole. Some of the critical issues discussed at the summit, and in the framework of turning around the industry, and maximize benefits, included Safety & Security; Human Resource Development; Tourism & Taxation; Environmental protection; Linkages with other sectors and Investment.
