According to a survey carried out by Insomar during summer season, the number of Romanian tourists going on holidays this year increased by 5% compared to 2008. The study was performed on a sample of 2,500 individuals. Approximately 40% of the tourists spending their holiday in Romania stated that they made the choice attracted by convenient tariffs in the resorts, while 11% of the interviewed persons counted on the quality of services.
Most tourists traveling abroad chose Italy – 4%, Spain – 3%, Greece and Hungary -2%. The main argument was the quality of services. 1% of the questioned individuals chose as holiday destinations resorts in Bulgaria and Turkey.
The average amount paid by Romanian tourists for holidays was up to EUR 235 for more than 50% of the people in the sample, while 17% allocated on average between EUR 235 and EUR 470.
56% of the persons made reservations for their holidays on their own, not through travel agencies, 20% booked using a travel agency, while the others used different electronic ways or syndicates.
The survey shows that most tourists, respectively 69%, consider the accommodation units are correctly classified, while 58% consider the price paid for the services is convenient.
Regarding holiday tickets, only 5% of the employees benefited of this facility this year.
According to the National Association of Tourism Owners, FPTR, tourism activity in 2010 is expected to be similar to this year, especially in the first six months. The federation’s representatives consider that, in case the Government will adopt anti-crisis measures, tourism is likely to recover by the end of 2010 at the last year’s level.
