International airport operator BAA plc announce the appointment of a new divisional managing director, Dr. Duncan Garrood, reporting to chief executive Mike Clasper, with effect from 2nd February, 2004.
Commenting on the appointment, Mike Clasper says;This is another move towards completing our new senior management structure. Duncan will further strengthen our management team, bringing a diversity of experience to the business. He has an excellent background in management with strong marketing skills and a very successful track record in global business.
Dr. Garrood will be responsible for the development and performance of Stansted, Gatwick and Southampton airports in the UK and for BAA`s airport management and investments in Australia, Europe and the Middle-East. He will join the group executive committee and lead BAA`s activities in market research, group marketing and property.
Starting as a management trainee with Unilever in 1983, Dr. Garrood quickly progressed to roles in marketing, sales and general management with postings in the UK and the Far East for both consumer goods and B2B operations. A merger of DiverseyLever (Unilever) and Johnson Wax Professional (part of the Johnson family of companies) led to his current position as Regional Director for Asia Pacific with JohnsonDiversey Inc, applying his extensive business skills to building a profitable share of the fast developing Far East markets.
Born in 1958, Dr. Garrood received a first class BSc Honours degree in biochemistry, from Imperial College, London, where he also later received his Ph.D. He is married and currently lives in Shanghai, China.
