Despite a year that has seen terrorism, political upheavals, hurricanes and a tsunami, Brits are remaining fervently loyal in their holiday choices, a new report from Cheapflights shows.

The report from Cheapflights, shows Egypt has moved up to become the third most popular winter sun destination – up from fourth place last year – despite bombings in Sharm el-Sheikh. Gran Canaria remains holidaymakers’ top choice, followed by Tenerife, with Goa in fourth.

Cheapflight’s report is based on the most searched-for destinations on the site during November 2005, compared with November 2004.

In the short breaks market, Prague remains top choice, with New York still doggedly retaining second spot. Paris comes in third, with Amsterdam fourth.

Liz Faherty, Director of Business Development for Cheapflights, says: “Despite a year with terrible terrorist acts at home and abroad, and unimaginable natural disasters, British tourists are staying loyal to both their holiday choices – and to their determination to take holidays. Their resolve, and supportive stance towards nations such as Egypt and the USA shines through in the statistics, with both destinations in the top four choices for holidays and short breaks respectively.”
