The collapse of the Belgian Sabena airline and the grounding of its flights on Tuesday evening has made air traffic into and out of Belgium problematical for both travel agencies and passengers. To dispel the uncertainty, Lufthansa has substantially increased capacities between Belgium and Germany so as to lay on more flights for all of the increased passenger volume in the short term.

Capacities have been raised on existing connections to Brussels from Frankfurt and Munich, and additional frequencies have been laid on both routes. Additionally, frequencies have been greatly increased between Brussels as well as Berlin and Stuttgart.

Details of further capacity increases cannot be released yet, since Lufthansa is dependent on the handling situation at Brussels airport and is forced to take ad hoc decisions up to the weekend as conditions dictate. However, the airline is ensuring that all passengers can be carried from Brussels to Germany and from Germany to Brussels, and that those travelling to beyond destinations can reach their destination on connecting flights at the Frankfurt and Munich hubs. In the next few days, Lufthansa will revise its timetable so as to guarantee that the existing gaps in air travel between Germany and Belgium are filled permanently.

Up to now, Lufthansa has operated flights on the following routes between Germany and Belgium:

Frankfurt – Brussels (8 flights daily)

Munich – Brussels (5 flights daily)

Berlin – Brussels (3 flights daily)

Hamburg – Brussels (3 flights daily)

Stuttgart – Brussels (3 flights daily)
