Cologne and Dusseldorf present themselves as the “Meetropolis” at IMEX 2012

With the project “KOLNDUSSELDORF – The Meetropolis”, the Cologne Convention Bureau (CCB) and the convention bureau DUSSELDORF (cbD) joined forces at IMEX to present all that these Rhineland convention destinations have to offer. From 22nd to 24th May 2012, these two cities on the Rhine presented themselves, together with their partners, in Hall 8 of the Frankfurt am Main convention centre. The Cologne-Dusseldorf booth was affiliated with the German Convention Bureau exhibition as an open area stand. Over 3,500 exhibitors from more than 150 countries were once again on hand at Germany’s most important trade fair for “Meetings & Incentives” in 2012. This year IMEX celebrated its tenth anniversary.

With the concept KOLNDUSSELDORF – The Meetropolis, the two convention bureaus aim to present the advantages of the Rhineland region as a convention destination to a wider market.

Stephanie Franke, head of the Cologne Convention Bureau, was very happy with the joint trade fair presentation: “The joint IMEX exhibition was a total success and, above all, helped to further enhance the international reputation of the region as a convention location. With the new branding ‘We custoMICE your meeting’ and an enlarged booth, we were able to achieve a noticeable increase in our visibility and make a lot of valuable new contacts. A number of productive discussions and positive feedback all confirm that the joint exhibition stand made a good impression. IMEX was a successful launch for a consistent communications concept. We hope that Meetropolis will further anchor in the minds of event planners the many positive features we offer.”

A number of Cologne partners were represented at the joint exhibition stand: Broich Catering & Locations, Colner Hofbrau Fruh KG, Excelsior Hotel Ernst, KolnKongress GmbH, Maritim Hotel Koln and the Radisson Blu Hotel.

Hilmar Guckert, CEO of DusseldorfCongress, and Dr. Eva-Maria Illigen-Gunther, Managing Director of Dusseldorf Marketing und Tourismus GmbH, have also come to a positive conclusion: “In recent years Dusseldorf has established itself as one of the leading cities in the German events market. It’s the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, and it has hosted a number of high-profile conventions. Looking at the middle and long terms, our presence at IMEX and the Meetropolis concept promise to further increase our popularity and position us even better as a destination within both the national and the international convention sectors.”

Cologne Convention Bureau

As an independent entity of the Cologne Tourist Board, the Cologne Convention Bureau officially commenced operations at the beginning of August 2008, to elevate the marketing of the city of Cologne as a convention destination, with its diverse events industry. The CCB is the first neutral contact point for those interested in Cologne seeking information on Cologne as a meeting, convention and incentive metropolis. In this respect, CCB acts as the umbrella organization for all subdivisions of the events business of the City of Cologne.
