Denmark will present the opportunity to discover and enjoy Aarhus and Odense during 2009, the country’s second and third largest cities. Both cities are ideal family destinations and the attractions on offer will be showcased at FITUR 2009.
Next year, Aarhus, which is known as the City of Smiles, will celebrate the anniversary of the 1909 national exhibition with Dialog09, a project which includes events, exhibitions, congresses and concerts and aims to unite Denmark with the rest of the world and foster a feeling of unity with other towns under the slogan: “Big city small world”.
Denmark will also promote the musical side of Aarhus, which is host to different types of festivals, such as the SPOT Festival (which introduces new groups and singers to the city) and Aarhus Festuge (a week-long celebration of musical events) and its Jazz Festival. Moreover, in 2009 the ARoS museum will celebrate its 150th anniversary and the open-air museum, the Old Town, is 100 years old in the spring.
The city of fairytales, Odense, also invites professionals at FITUR 2009 to discover numerous events, such as the Robot Festival, which offers children the opportunity to "Learn through play" a slogan which is accompanied by that of Odense, which is "Playing is living". The city’s Brandt museum is also organising an exhibition of American robots during the same period.
Odense also holds sporting events, such as its famous annual marathon which takes place at the end of the summer and in which children can participate. Another famous event is the Flower Festival, which creates a welcoming and friendly atmosphere in the centre of the city, where the streets are lined with flower sculptures, music and games for everyone.
