In the last few years every destination around the UK and most places around the world have used Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) and developed Destination Management Systems for marketing their place and for facilitating information dissemination and bookings.
Most of these projects represented huge investments often paid by the Public sector. Several of these projects have demonstrated a Return of Investment, by increasing both the numbers and quality of visitors. Others have consumed incredible resources without making a real impact in the industry. In the meanwhile the value of private electronic booking agencies has increased rapidly demonstrating both commercial success and future potential. This meeting will bring together Tourism Destination Marketers and DMS suppliers to exchange mature and sober views on what works and what does not.
The meeting will demonstrates that the competitiveness of Tourism Destinations will increasingly depend on their ability to use innovative ICTs to integrate marketing strategies with regional development plans in order to develop multi-channel distribution strategies for close interaction with prospective tourists and travel industry partners. It will also explore the opportunity to collaborate with commercial operators and discuss the legal and political constraints. The meeting will demonstrate critical success factors for future success through partnership with all stakeholders involved.
