Iberia backs Madrid for 2012 Olympic Games

Iberia announced its support for Madrid`s bid to host to the 2012 Olympic Games, in a ceremony at Barajas Airport

Iberia announced its support for Madrid`s bid to host to the 2012 Olympic Games, in a ceremony at Barajas Airport with Madrid`s Mayor Alberto Ruiz Gallardon and Iberia Chairman Fernando Conte presiding.

The ceremony was also attended by Feliciano Mayoral, the chief executive of the Madrid 2012 organisation; by Jaime Lissavetzky, the Secretary of State for Sport, Deputy Mayor Manuel Cobo, Trinidad Jimenez, the senior councillor for the PSOE centre-left party in the Madrid council, and Ines Sabanes, representing the leftist IU party in the council. They looked on as an official Madrid 2012 sticker was affixed to an Iberia airplane –specifically an Airbus A-340/600, registered as EC-IZX, and named Mariano Benlliure.

The stickers will be displayed on all 219 Iberia aircraft, and will promote Madrid`s candidacy as Olympic host city at the nearly 100 airports around the world served by the Spanish airline.

With this move Iberia joined with many other Spanish companies and organisations in showing their confidence in the Madrid 2012 Olympic project. Promotional posters are displayed on Madrid buses, in underground stations, on municipal vehicles, on taxis, at restaurants, at sports federations and clubs, at embassies, and on emblematic Madrid buildings.
