Icelandair re-launches Glasgow service

Icelandair is pleased to announce the relaunch of its Glasgow service starting 27 August with two flights per week to / from Iceland. Flights will operate on Thursdays and Sundays. Then on 25 September, flights will increase to four flights per week operating on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

The four flights per week starting 25 September will operate as a "triangle route’ using the following routing: Reykjavik (KEF) – Manchester (MAN) – Glasgow (GLA) – Reykjavik (KEF). The schedule fits into Icelandair’s “hub and spoke” system, allowing passengers to connect onwards to Icelandair’s North American destinations like New York City, Boston, Seattle and more. The connection times to North America are short, resulting in elapsed flying times comparable or better than the competition.

Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said: "Icelandair is one of Scotland’s longest serving airlines, with 60 years of service between our two countries. We are delighted that Icelandair is continuing to show its commitment to Scotland with a re-launched programme that not only re-connects Glasgow with Reykjavik, but which also offers improved connections to Icelandair’s extensive North American network."

"Iceland itself is a destination like no other, offering a fantastic wealth of natural attractions, as well as a cosmopolitan capital city boasting world class cuisine, boutique shopping and a vibrant nightlife. The new programme makes it easier than ever to discover this wonderful country, and also offers a real opportunity to promote Glasgow to the hugely important North American market."

Scott Taylor, Chief Executive – Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, added: "GCMB has long recognised that the vitality of the west of Scotland economy is in part due to its accessibility to international markets. The route development fund that GCMB operates on behalf of Glasgow City Council goes some way to supporting BAA in its endeavours to securing and sustaining routes into Glasgow."

“We are delighted that Icelandair is not only relaunching its twice weekly service to Glasgow in August but also increasing frequency to four flights a week from the end of September."

“Glasgow City Marketing Bureau will be working closely with Icelandair and Glasgow Airport on joint marketing activity over the coming months to maximise visitor numbers from both Iceland and North America.”

Icelandair is one of Iceland’s longest established companies, connecting the world and Iceland for over 70 years. Icelandair flies from the UK to Iceland with connecting service to Boston, Halifax, Minneapolis/St. Paul, New York City, Orlando, Seattle and Toronto.
