Javier Blanco has appointed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization to the post of Executive Director of the Secretariat of the UNWTO Affiliate Members, taking the place of Carlos Romero.
Mr Blanco stated that "I want you to know that I am assuming this post with true enthusiasm as well as a deep sense of responsibility and vocation to service, in view of the opportunity given to me to contribute, together with the excellent team of people working in this Organization, toward the development of the major principles and objectives set by the UNWTO.
I know and acknowledge the great work carried out by my predecessor in this post, Mr. Carlos Romero, during his brief tenure at the head of this Secretariat, as well as by its Chairman, Mr. Carlos Vogeler.
I have the good fortune of being able to count on a solid strategic foundation (the 2010 Strategic Plan, which has already been designed and approved) as I begin to take up my activities. These new strategic lines that the Organization has provided for itself, with the necessary revisions and updates that may eventually be made – within a framework of open dialogue, integration of interests and effective participation by all the Affiliate Members – will serve as the main guide for our work".
