Malev recently welcomed its one millionth revenue passenger of the year, nearly one month earlier than it did last year. In line with the positive trend apparent from the second half of last year, Malev passenger numbers continue to climb rapidly: by more than 13% in the first four months of the year, and by more than 15% in May compared to the previous year’s data. As a consequence of this growth, the Hungarian flag carrier registered one million revenue passengers nearly a month earlier than it did in 2005.

The airline has witnessed increases in passenger numbers on several routes. During the January-April period, traffic growth was exceptional to Copenhagen (+41%), Larnaca (+39%), Athens (+33%), and New York (+13%). The huge potential deriving from code-share agreements concluded as an integral part of the oneworld accession process is clearly shown by the Madrid flight, which registered traffic growth of around 40% in April. Malev’s top destinations measured on the basis of load factors for the first four months of 2006 are Dublin, Toronto, New York and Tel Aviv.
