MSC Musica: The Final Phase Of Construction Has Started

MSC Musica, the latest addition to the MSC Cruises fleet…

MSC Musica, the latest addition to the MSC Cruises fleet, is in the final stages of construction at Alstom Marine of St. Nazaire.

The dark blue funnel with the white compass emblem of MSC Cruises, identifies this new ship as one of the MSC Cruises fleet. The funnel, crowning this magnificent new vessel has now been positioned and weighs 65 tonnes, is 60 metres in circumference and 11 metres in height. MSC Musica’s funnel has been built using an innovative technique, resulting in a perfectly smooth exterior.

Peter Pate, UK director for MSC Cruises comments a ship of this size for next summer sailing from Venice is what we needed. Despite our meteoric growth since the launch of our first new build in 2003, MSC Lirica, our cruises to the eastern Mediterranean with weekend sailings have been sold out months in advance! Extra capacity will give us more opportunities to capture the current and increasing demand. These cruises are popular across a wide range of age groups, as well as those looking for a cruise and stay option combining Venice or the Italian Lakes.”

On 15 October MSC Musica was ‘launched’ from Chantiers d’ Atlantique to the Penhoet dock, where the interiors will be fitted. The final delivery of MSC Cruises flagship is scheduled for June 2006.

On 1 July 2006, MSC Musica will begin her summer cruise programme, sailing from Venice, on a weekly Saturday service.

A record breaking ship, MSC Musica boasts 1300 cabins, 80% are exterior cabins, 65% are cabins with balconies and 22,000 sq.m are dedicated to the public areas.

MSC Cruises are setting new standards, with an innovative design for a Panamax construction ship. The design philosophy used for MSC Musica enhances the refined elegant style adopted in the construction of MSC Cruises other new ships, but also establishes a stronger identity.

MSC Cruises will be offering a product to meet the demands of the discerning cruise market; from the on board ambience that is both classic and elegant, to the attention to detail and colours, to the service and hospitality shown to the guests, not least the interesting itineraries and programmes – all delivered with high level quality and unique Italian hospitality.

The MSC Cruises fleet currently consists of MSC Sinfonia, MSC Opera, MSC Armonia, MSC Lirica, MSC Melody, MSC Rhapsody, MSC Monterey and offers year round cruises to the Mediterranean, plus North Europe, the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean, South America and South Africa. The MSC Cruises fleet will increase to eight ships in 2006 with the arrival of MSC Musica and then again, to nine ships in 2007 with MSC Orchestra.

MSC Cruises is a co-sponsor of Alinghi for the 32nd America’s Cup which will be concluded in Valencia, Spain in June 2007.
