The North West Tourist Board which is a partnership between VisitBritain, 39 Local Authorities and 1,200 tourism business in the Region, launch an on-line Regional Tourism Monitor, which is believed to be the first project of its kind in the North West. The Northwest Development Agency, funded the RTM scheme for one year.
Commenting on the RTMDr Rachel Hall, Research Officer, North West Tourist Board, said: The RTM measures the health and performance of the North West Tourism Industry in a number of ways. It compares visitor and occupancy rates with similar businesses at County and Regional levels and alsomeasures staff levels and recruitment experiences. It records operators` levels of optimism towards the future performance of the Region`s Tourism Industry, and also identifies issues and events impacting on businesses within the industry.
Using a combination of on-line self-completion questionnaires and telephone interviews, a sample of the North West accommodation providers and attractions are surveyed on a quarterly basis. The results for April to June and July to September can be viewed through an interactive results page at www.nwtourism.net – the website for the tourism industry in englands northwest.
The interactive results page is an exciting new way of viewing the North West`s tourism trends through customised reports, which comprise user friendly statistics and charts.
Dr Hall, heads up the RTM scheme, also said : We urge all tourism businesses alike, whether they be accommodation providers or attractions across the North West to play their part in the RTM and reap its benefits. We would also encourage the industry, students, and other interested parties to use the interactive results page.
