More than a quarter of a million passengers are expected to use Scotland’s three largest airports this Easter. An unprecedented 251,300 passengers will fly in and out of Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen Airports this weekend for the Easter break.

Edinburgh Airport is forecast to be the busiest in Scotland this Easter with an estimated 113,600 passengers. Glasgow is expected to handle 102,100 passengers, while 35,600 are expected to pass through Aberdeen Airport.

Thursday (13 April) is expected to be one of the busiest days of the year so far, with an estimated 61,500 passengers across the three airports.

Dublin, Paris, Dubai, Frankfurt and Amsterdam are among the most popular international destinations this Easter, along side traditional sunspots such as Malaga, Alicante and Tenerife. Favourite UK destinations include London, Belfast, Birmingam, Bristol and Manchester.

A number of new services have been introduced just in time for Easter, including flights to Gdansk and Katowice from Edinburgh, to Cardiff from Glasgow, and to Amsterdam and Stornoway from Aberdeen. Flyglobespan have also introduced a new daily service from Glasgow to the Dutch capital.

Stephen Baxter, managing director of airport operator BAA Scotland, said: “All three airports are expected to be much busier than usual this Easter. With a greater variety of destinations on offer this year, we expect our international routes to be particularly busy as holidaymakers fly out for Easter, and thousands more arrive in Scotland for the long weekend.”

Passengers using Glasgow Airport are also advised to allow extra travel time to and from the airport as a result of ongoing road works on the nearby M8. Passengers at all airports are reminded that sharp items should be packed in checked-in hold baggage, and that some airlines impose limits on the size or amount of carry-on hand luggage. Passengers should check with their airline for information.
