Ulster lad and Radio One DJ / TV presenter Colin Murray, has donned his wetsuit and grabbed his surfboard to help VisitScotland launch the next phase of the myvisitscotland.com campaign, promoting short breaks with added adventure to Scotland’s six cities.

Entitled CityActive, the campaign aims to build awareness of the vibrancy of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Stirling, Aberdeen and Inverness and their close proximity to a wide range of high adrenaline adventure sports such as mountain biking, surfing and sea kayaking – all taking place in some of the world’s most beautiful landscapes.

As well as Colin, myvisitscotland.com has also enlisted six local ambassadors, each an adventure sport specialist from their respective home city. On the website, each describes their perfect 48 hours in the city including their recommendations for adventure sport activities, allowing visitors to personalise their city break and take advantage of special offers.

CityActive is the second phase of myvisitscotland.com, a website that has already proved to be a big hit with Ulster’s young and savvy city break takers. Aimed at taking visitors where ordinary guidebooks can’t, myvisitscotland.com reveals insider information on bars, restaurants, underground arts and music events and now the fastest routes out of town to find great spots for outdoor adventure sports.

Speaking on his involvement with CityActive, Colin Murray commented:

“I’ve always enjoyed spending time in Scotland so I’m really pleased to be fronting the campaign. As much as I love the bars and clubs, it’s sometimes good to clear the cobwebs away and this is just the ticket!

“I think it’s great that visitors can come over for a weekend break and combine the fun and vibrancy of the city as well as nipping off to enjoy some adventure sports – all within 48 hours! This website is a great tool as it offers insider knowledge so visitors can really make the most of their stay.”
he added.

myvisitscotland.com has already been a huge success and the second phase is an exciting development as Chris Lynch, VisitScotland’s UK and Ireland Marketing Manager for Culture and Cities explains.

“Since the first stage launch in April, myvisitscotland.com has provided over 45,000 users with information on places to go and things to do within Scotland’s six cities.” said Chris.

“Scotland really does have a unique proposition for city break visitors in that there are fantastic urban destinations with coast and countryside on the doorstep to undertake exhilarating adventure sports. Colin and our six local ambassadors really know their stuff and their insights will be an essential source for visitors.” he added.

The origins of myvisitscotland.com lie in extensive research undertaken by VisitScotland into the growing city break market, which accounts for 35% of all holidays taken in Scotland by UK and Ireland residents. Figures show that nearly 66% of visitors to Scottish cities are aged between 16 and 44, with high to medium disposable incomes and a passion for eating, drinking, good nightlife and shopping. The majority are looking for personal recommendations and local knowledge to ensure that their short stay is a distinctive experience and they generally use the Internet to gather information and make bookings.
