Scotland’s national tourism organisation VisitScotland has launched its new Winter Breaks 2005/2006 brochure featuring a fantastic range of accommodation deals and visitor attraction discounts.

More than one hundred accommodation providers have joined the winter campaign which offers Northern Ireland holidaymakers reduced tariffs and special deals in all areas of Scotland throughout December, January and

February. A variety of accommodation is available from B&Bs and cosy cottages to five-star luxury hotels and grand Scottish Castles.

EDINBURGH

Scotland’s capital is a great city for a winter break. There are numerous Christmas events and attractions and the city’s Hogmanay celebrations are among the best in the world.

GLASGOW

Glasgow is perfect for a January citybreak. Not only can visitors make the most of the shops but Glasgow hosts its winter music festival, Celtic Connections from January 11th through to January 29th. Artists from around the globe will perform alongside the very best Scottish talent and visitors can enjoy everything from concerts and ceilidhs to drums and dancing.

BORDERS

Any keen horticulturists will be interested in the forthcoming events at Kelso’s Floors Castle and Gardens. On January 17th visitors can learn about fruit tree pruning and on February 16th a talk will be held on

‘the journey of the snowdrop’.

AYRSHIRE & ARRAN

Why not head over to Ayrshire and try out your New Year luck at Ayr Racecourse. There are plenty of race meets throughout January and February and with Alloway being the birth place of Robert Burns, visitors could also

tie in their stay to celebrate Burns Night on January 25th.

FIFE

Cambo Estate near St Andrews hosts a snowdrop festival from February 1st until March 15th, which is believed to be the largest festival of its kind in Scotland.

WEST HIGHLANDS

The West Highlands is a destination to experience both wildlife and winter sports. Islay Birding specialises in wilderness and nature adventure and visitors can also head to the Isle of Mull for a wildlife and birdwatch safari with Isle of Mull Wildlife Expeditions. Skiing enthusiasts can hit the slopes at the Nevis Range or at Glencoe and then warm up with a dram of whisky at Oban Distillery, open Monday to Friday 12.30pm to 4pm but closed in January.
