Increased demand for travel by train prompts new rail journeys

Enquiries and bookings for rail journeys around the world are up 16 per cent on last year, according to Titan HiTours, the award winning escorted tour specialist. The operator cites the rejuvenated romanticism for rail travel, where the actual journey is as much a part of the holiday as the destination; the low carbon footprint of rail and leisurely pace of travel through a varied landscape, as the main reasons for the upturn in bookings.

To meet this demand, the company is launching its first dedicated Classic Rail Tours brochure this month which includes a collection of holidays by train in 29 different destinations around the world, from a five day trip to Bruges to a 21-day coast to coast journey across the United States of America.

“Rail travel is definitely back in fashion,” said Hugh Clayson, Marketing Director from Titan HiTours. “The relaunch of St Pancras station last year really put the glamour back into travelling by train and put it in the media spotlight. It’s certainly one of the fastest growing sectors of the holiday market. Rail travel is low impact on the environment and journeys are designed to allow time and space to see different countries without feeling hurried. It really is an antidote to modern busy lifestyles.”
