Business travel managers measure productivity, return on investment, costs and discounts, and the price of travel versus travel alternatives. Now for the first time in the European Union, business travel managers will be able to measure their financial value as professionals. The Association of Corporate Travel Executives has launched a compensation survey as the ultimate benchmark for travel manager salaries in the EMEA region.

This project is generating both personal and professional benchmarks for our profession. said Nadine Dewart, EMEA Travel Manager for BMC Software (Netherlands) and ACTE`s EMEA Regional Chair. It will enable travel managers to establish their value within three separate categories: the size of their company, location with their immediate region, and the extent of their professional influence.

Far more than just a comparison of salaries, the ACTE EMEA Compensation Survey will construct the most recent profile of the business travel manager, delving into new trends in reporting structures and providing a gauge of professional influence. According to Dewart, the survey will provide an excellent career planning tool for travel managers in setting value parameters for performance.

ACTE EMEA is extremely sensitive to data privacy issues and guarantees the confidentiality of all survey responses, said Dewart. Furthermore, this information will only be used for statistical analysis. It will be presented as a bound document to all participants as a benefit of their membership.

ACTE EMEA has taken the lead on key issues like data privacy and the need to initiate IATA changes. The need for a compensation survey grew out of a realization that the changing role of the travel manager –coupled with shifts in corporate culture — has produced greater responsibilities as well as higher expectations of returned value.

Initial compensation survey results will be presented at ACTE`s Global Conference in Dublin, 12 – 14 September. The completed document will be released by the close of the year.
