Gap Adventures named one of Canada’s top 50 employers for young people

Gap Adventures is proud to announce that it has been named one of Canada’s Top 50 Employers for Young people by the editors of the prestigious Canada’s Top 100 Employers list. Canada’s Top Employers for Young People recognizes the employers that offer the nation’s best benefits for younger workers. The employers on the list are Canada’s leaders in attracting and retaining younger employees to their organizations.

"This is a huge honour and a validation of our long-standing efforts to attract youthful Gappers and build a strong sense of happiness and community across our company," said Gap Adventures founder Bruce Poon Tip.

"We’re not only committed to changing travellers’ lives with our authentic and sustainable adventures, but also those of our employees by providing a fun, vibrant, challenging and innovative work environment here at Base Camp and around the world. I’m very proud that our hard work has received kudos from such a well-respected organization."

Gap Adventures has long focused on building an entrepreneurial, triple bottom line-focused culture complemented by its strong core values. Gappers who help the tour operator achieve its commitment to leading the travel industry in service are recognized company-wide, while all staffers are rewarded each year with a chance to experience any one of the company’s more than 1,000 adventures.

Equally important to becoming a top employer for young people has been Gap Adventures’ focus on doing the right thing and building a sustainable business model that enhances communities touched by its itineraries. In 2003, the company founded the non-profit Planeterra Foundation to give back to those communities through fundraising and voluntourism efforts. The result: Planeterra initiatives have fuelled a range of more than 30 projects throughout the world delivering health programs, micro-enterprise development, social programs, education initiatives, environmental conservation, and community infrastructure improvements. In recognition of those initiatives, the company received Conde Nast Traveler Magazine’s World Savers Award for ‘Doing it All’ and Travel and Leisure Magazine’s Global Vision Award for ‘Voluntourism’ in 2009.
