Sixteen charitable organizations from all over the United States benefited from ASTA`s Political Action Committee`s (ASTAPAC) charitable match program in 2006. ASTA’s Corporate Advisory Council (CAC) provided $20,000 in funds for the program.

Through the charitable match program, ASTA challenges its chapters to meet certain political action fundraising criteria in order to qualify for CAC matching charitable funds. Thirteen chapters qualified for the CAC funds, disbursed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

“The 2006 ASTAPAC Charitable Match Program offers ASTA members a way to strengthen their ‘One Voice’ in government while pulling together to do good work for worthy causes,” said John Haskins, chair of the ASTAPAC Governing Board. “The program increased ASTAPAC’s donation levels and gave ASTA’s chapters a creative way to support worthy charitable endeavors in their communities at a time when support is desperately needed.”

The CAC is an appointed group of travel professionals who advise ASTA and assist with carrying out its mission. According to Bruce Charendoff, senior vice president of government affairs for Sabre Holdings, Inc. and a member of the CAC, “this is definitely the realization of a vision. We hope to help even more charitable organizations in the future as more chapters become eligible for matching funds.” Charendoff spearheaded the charitable match program.

The following charities were selected by the eligible chapters and received their donations during the months of January and February of this year:

  • Friends of the Orphans (Arizona Chapter)

  • Doctors Without Borders (Central Atlantic Chapter)
