The Association of Greek Tourist Enterprises (SETE<.>) has expressed especial satisfaction with the results of the EU Helsinki summit, where Greece gave Turkey the "green light" for its future accession – under certain terms – to

the Union. The acceptance of Greece's positions and Turkey's bid for candidate member status creates the framework for the securing of peace in the Balkan region and southeastern Euope, SETE said in a statement.

Additionally, it lays down the necessary preconditions for the development and prospering of the region, SETE noted.

Greece and Turkey are two countries whose path of development depends in large part on tourism, the statement read. The situation, as it stands, should positively impact on international tourist demand for both countries.

The prosperity of neighbouring tourist destinations, such as Turkey, is vital to the long-term viability and competitiveness of Greek tourism, SETE pointed out.

Turkey's accession to united Europe will improve the conditions of competition in the medium- to long-term, freeing Greek tourist enterprises from the practice of price undercutting and strengthening their position in the face of investments in the neighbouring country, SETE believes.

SETE is in contact with the Turkish Tourism Investors Association and hopes the two groups can undertake joint initiatives to benefit both countries.
