Top three reasons you should visit Uganda

Here are the top three reasons you should at all costs visit Uganda at least once in your lifetime.

A story has been told over and over again of how Uganda is the pearl of Africa. But many might assume this is simply a tag; a catch phrase that tour agents simply use to lure the whole world into booking a Uganda safari

In an attempt to iron out the folds in this pearl of Africa narrative; here are the top three reasons you should at all costs visit Uganda at least once in your lifetime though return trips are highly welcome because there more to explore in Uganda than the things for these top three reasons.

Murchison falls
Uganda is gifted with a number of waterfalls among these include Sipi falls, Sisiyi falls, Busowoko falls; the list is quite a long one. But even though these waterfalls are highly recommended by a number of travels, they are not the main reason I would recommend someone to visit Uganda.

On the African continent, there are only two unique waterfalls that everyone should visit in Africa. The rest of the waterfalls have replicas around the world. The two unique waterfalls are Victoria falls in Zambia and Zimbabwe; and Murchison falls in Uganda.

Murchison falls are the strongest waterfalls in the whole. Explaining the chemistry that makes this waterfall unique might rob you of the experience of a lifetime. I rather someone simply takes a leap of faith for one of the best waterfall surprises on the African continent.
Therefore instead of discussing the details of the waterfall, allow me share the other things that will make your visit to Murchison falls national park worthwhile.

Murchison falls are locally known as Kabalega falls. They are found in Murchison falls national park, the biggest national park in Uganda. This means that when you visit Murchison falls, you will not only see a waterfall. You will have an opportunity to encounter herds of wildlife. These include but not limited to African elephants, Cape Buffaloes, Lions, Leopards and countless antelopes.

Visiting Murchison falls is a unique package that you might not find elsewhere on the African continent. Sharing the details might simply spoil your experience when you get there. I rather you take a leap of faith and explore Murchison falls by yourself.

Mountain gorilla trekking
It might be unclear for some people when it comes to the best places to go gorilla trekking. But the most reliable gorilla trekking destinations in the whole world are Rwanda and Uganda. This is partly because of the safety in these countries when it comes to gorilla trekking and the guarantee to see the mountain gorillas in the wild on any given day.

In case you are still wondering what I am talking about, gorilla trekking is a hiking journey through and thick African tropical forests with a major aim of encountering an habituated gorilla family in its natural habitat.

Gorilla trekking is one of Africa’s top tourist activities that you might never find elsewhere in the whole. Of course someone can argue that they have ever encountered a gorilla in a zoo. But besides the fact that the experience of encountering an animal in the zoo is not the same as encountering it in its natural habitat, the mountain gorilla sub species cannot survive in zoos.

Mountains gorillas are only found in Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic republic of Congo. Uganda hosts more than half of the about 1100 mountain gorillas in the whole world. It has the population advantage because it is the only place in the whole world where you can find two gorilla national parks.

With that said, gorilla trekking in Uganda is relatively cheaper than gorilla trekking in Rwanda. And on top of that, Uganda offers its visitors an opportunity to choose between two gorilla national parks for mountain gorilla trekking. This is not the case with Rwanda and the Democratic republic of Congo.

Therefore, if you are considering visiting Africa; gorilla trekking is that adventure activity that you cannot afford to miss and the best place to encounter the mountain gorillas in their natural habitat is Uganda.

The source of River Nile
There is a lot of science that gives reasons to why Tanzania and Burundi have places that are considered the source of the Nile. In fact you should consider visiting those places too in case fits into your schedule. But to the best of my knowledge, the source of the Nile is in Uganda.

It is only in Uganda that you can visit the point at which the river Nile is separated from Africa’s largest fresh water lake. In other words, you have an opportunity to visit Lake Victoria when you go to Uganda as well as ride on the Nile.

A number of activities have been tailored around lake Victoria, the source of the Nile and River Nile itself. But there is nothing we can recommend as the chilling stay at Lemala wildwaters lodge.

After visiting the source of the Nile in Jinja, you can always consider a boat trip on the Nile, or rafting, canoeing, horse back rides with a climax of simply sitting back to watch the water of the Nile spark in white at the wildwaters lodge.

A lot  more can be said about Uganda in regards to culture, wildlife, and landscapes. But these three things stand out. I find them to be so unique far above the extra ordinary landscapes, and the friendly people that make Uganda a special gem for foreign travelers.
