British Airways was the big winner at this year`s Business Traveller Awards, attended by 430 of the industry`s top movers and shakers.
BA chief executive, Rod Eddington collected six awards for his airline including best airline, from HRH the Countess of Wessex. BA also picked up awards for best longhaul, best shorthaul, best economy class, best business class, best first class and best frequent flyer programme.
The award for best low cost airline went to Easyjet, which saw off competition from Bmibaby and Ryanair.
The ceremony was held at the London Hilton on Park Lane, itself the winner of the award for the best business hotel in western Europe. Hilton won four further awards including best loyalty programme for Hilton Hhonors.
Other winners in the hotel category were Shangri-La, which won best business hotel worldwide for its Singapore property, best new business hotel in the world for the recently opened Dubai hotel, and best business hotel chain in Asia Pacific. Starwood also picked up two awards for its Sheraton brand.
The award that was met with greatest surprise from the audience was the best airport in Europe, which was picked up by Heathrow ahead of Amsterdam Schipol and Gatwick.
Traveller of the year award was given to Chris Friend, a blind man who travels frequently around the world on his own representing the charity Sight Savers. The chosen charity for this year`s awards was Vision 20/20, of which the Countess of Wessex is patron.
