Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa put the final touch on its 15-month multi-million dollar master makeover when it launched Phuket Island’s largest spa facility on March 7, 2005. The new facility is expected to provide about 18,000 treatments a year and significantly add to the hotel room bookings.

Known simply as ‘The Spa’, the 15 free-standing treatment villas have been designed to resemble a traditional Thai village built over 1,500 square metres of landscaped coconut groves and overlooking the resort’s freshwater lagoon. Each villa features dramatic artwork, views of the nearby mountains and private outdoor gardens, and has been fashioned with a signature spa experience ranging from herbal steam rooms to a Japanese sento-style wooden tub for two. The villas are linked by a raised boardwalk that pipes tranquil music as it meanders through the village.

General Manager Mr. Peter Hourigan, said The Spa provides a clever contrast to the 685-room Hilton hotel, which overlooks Karon Beach. “With this spa, we have created an intimate resort within a resort, one that will become a destination in its own right. Within two years, we expect more than 15 percent of all in-house guests to come solely for our spa experience and the health and equilibrium programs built around it.

“Almost 18 months of planning and development has been put into the spa, including the development and packaging of a Hilton-exclusive spa product, a signature herbal treatment and a CD of equilibrium style music.”

Hourigan added that the menu will primarily offer Thai treatments although a range of other massages have been included for guests who book longer stays and want variety. He said, When spa lovers go to Japan, they expect shiatsu treatments, when they travel to India they want Ayurvedic massages. Here they can totally lose themselves in Thailand and Thai-style treatments. They will be greeted by our 23 trained Thai masseuses, dine on Thai-inspired spa cuisine and have a wide variety of Thai massages.
