Continental Airlines announced that it will add a fee for paper tickets purchased through non-U.S. based travel agents when the travel itinerary qualifies for electronic ticketing.

Customers overwhelmingly prefer the convenience of electronic tickets over paper tickets, with more than 90 percent of Continental`s customers already using electronic tickets for their travel, said Mark Bergsrud, vice president marketing programs and distribution.

The airline expects that all domestic and international travel on Continental will be paperless by Dec. 31, 2005, two years ahead of the International Air Transport Association`s recently announced initiative to eliminate paper tickets worldwide by the end of 2007.

Effective immediately, the fee for a paper ticket issued through agents located in Portugal and Spain is 20 EUR. In Ireland and Italy, the fee is 25 EUR. The fee for paper tickets issued in Norway is 350 NOK, and in the United Kingdom it is 25 GBP. For paper tickets issued in Asian countries that it serves, a fee will be added on Jan. 1, 2005.
