As reported by the Federal Statistical Office, the total number of air passengers departing from German airports to national or foreign destinations in the period from January to June 2004 amounted to 36.4 mn (+8.8% from the corresponding period of the previous year).

National traffic saw a decrease (10.4 mn; – 1.7%), whereas international outbound traffic grew by 3.7 mn travellers (+13.7%), thus reaching a level of 26,0 mn passengers.

From January to June 2004, outbound traffic to all continents, except for Australia (+0.6%), was characterised by double-digit growth rates: Europe +11.0%, Africa +29.4%, America +15.3% and Asia +30.5%.

As far as Asia is concerned it has to be considered that mainly because of the lung disease SARS double-digit plunges were registered in the first half of 2003 for important destinations like China, Hong Kong, Japan and Thailand; these decreases were more than compensated by the present growth.
