As of Monday, 1st December, people arriving into the UK from destinations outside the EU can now bring in up to £300 of duty free goods, more than double the former allowance. With better news still to come, as in January a further increase to £340 will come into effect.
“This increase on duty free allowances has come at the pefect time”, says netflights.com’s Managing Director, Terry Fisher. “Despite the economic climate and the dreaded recession, people are not stopping spending money, merely changing their spending habits. It’s a time when we are all prioritising what we buy, looking for value for money and trying to make our pound go that little bit further”.
“In recent weeks, we’ve seen the big high street stores slashing prices and trying to direct consumer spending towards the retail market. In much the same way, the lowing of restrictions on duty free purchases, should provide a similar boost to the travel industry, encouraging people to travel further afield."
