Flybe flies high with another environmental accolade at travel ‘Oscars’

Flybe, the UK’s number one domestic carrier, is celebrating winning the ‘Most Environmentally and Socially Responsible Budget Airline’ award at The British Travel Awards 2009 for the second year running.

The British Travel Awards is the number one travel industry awards programme in the UK and is the largest annual public measure on travel industry performance. Known as the travel industry ‘Oscars’, The British Travel Awards gives UK consumers the chance to give feedback on their travel experiences so making these awards amongst the most coveted in the industry.

Flybe is no stranger to receiving global recognition and this latest accolade joins an increasingly prestigious list of internationally renowned awards received by the airline. Flybe was named Air Transport World’s 2009 Regional Airline of the Year; European Airline of the Year by Aviation Week’s Overhaul & Maintenance magazine, a renowned US-based global industry publication in recognition of its ‘outstanding contribution to the aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul industry’ and most recently received the Aviation ICARUS award at the Environmental Supplier Awards 2009/2010.

Mike Rutter, Flybe’s Chief Commercial Officer says: “Flybe is extremely proud and delighted to have been named the ‘Most Environmentally and Socially Responsible Budget Airline’ at The British Travel Awards 2009, especially since it is the second year in a row we have been honoured to win it but also because this award is voted for by the most important panel of people, the British travelling public.

“We would urge other airlines to adopt a responsible attitude to climate change by investing time and money into newer and more fuel efficient fleets and adopting eco-labelling programmes. We are again throwing down the gauntlet and hope that the recognition we’ve just received will spur others into taking these positive steps.”
