268,601 U.S. tourists arrived in Israel in the first seven months of the year, a 25 per cent increase over the same period last year. According to figures released today by the Central Bureau of Statistics and Israel`s Ministry of Tourism, a record 174,600 French tourists arrived between January and July 2005, a 27 per cent hike. More visitors also arrived from Germany, Italy, Spain, Korea, Poland and other countries.
Israel`s Minister of Tourism Avraham Hirchson said in response to the figures: Our goal is to welcome five million tourists to the country by the end of 2008.
A total of 1,063,917 foreigners visited Israel in the first seven months of the year, a 29 per cent rise over the same period in 2004.
In July alone, 46,832 American tourists arrived (+26%), 40,605 French (+25%) and 14,583 British visitors (+29%).
