Malev inaugurated its Boeing 737NG simulator which is used for pilot training, refresher courses and examinations. The so-called “Full Flight” simulator – manufactured by Mechtronix Systems of Canada – allows Malev to optimise the time pilots spend training, thereby boosting the operational efficiency of the company.

The 173 pilots at Malev currently flying Boeing 737 aircraft have access to the flight training simulator set up at the airline’s corporate base in Budapest and Malev is the first airline in Europe to have such a state-of-the-art Boeing 737NG simulator.

The flight simulator cabin matches in every detail the cockpit of the Boeing 737 Next-Generation plane. Virtual flight replication – both movement and view – is achieved with the help of a sophisticated computerised control system.

Malev organises 10-15 type courses a year, added to which all pilots take part in recurrent training at least three times a year. Until now, Malev captains and first officers travelled abroad for recurrent training which in cost terms represented 1,500 lost working days for the airline’s 173 pilots flying B737. Pilots now have unlimited access to the simulator, and the remaining 2-3000 hours can be leased out to other airlines.
