Norwegian set a new passenger record with 1,049,200 passengers in October. This is an increase of over 200,000 passengers or a 25 percent increase from the same month last year.
"Over one million passengers chose to travel with Norwegian for a fourth consecutive month. The positive development for the company means that we can offer our passengers a continually improving route portfolio. Just this week, we have launched eight new routes, and even more new routes will be added in the nearest future", says Bjorn Kjos, Chief Executive Officer of Norwegian.
The airline industry has been in the spotlight of consumer associations this week as many airlines include fuel surcharges on tickets disguised as taxes and charges imposed by authorities. Norwegian chose to remove the fuel surcharge all together last year. The removal of the fuel surcharge has generated lower income per sold passenger kilometer (yield), which is in line with the lower fuel cost and has resulted in lower fares for our passengers.
"We have communicated to the market that the removal of the fuel surcharge would impact yield. The passenger growth we had in October shows that it was right to remove the fuel surcharge. The customers are offered lower fares which increases customer satisfaction, and we can continue to open new routes across Scandinavia", says Kjos.
The cabin factor for the Group was 78 percent in October, as opposed to 79 percent last year. The company operated 99.9 percent of the planned flights in October, whereof 84 percent departed on schedule.
