Stockholmsmässan chosen as venue for Stockholm+50

Later that same week, World Environment Day will be organized on June 5. It is the UN’s main tool for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our planet.

In June 2022, Sweden will host Stockholm+50—the global UN environmental meeting. This commemorates the very first UN environmental conference in 1972 in Stockholm, exactly 50 years ago. Stockholm+50 will be held at Stockholmsmässan on June 2–3.

Two concrete outcomes of the Stockholm Conference in 1972 were the establishment of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the designation of June 5 as World Environment Day. In addition to celebrating the 50th anniversary of the environmental conference, Stockholm+50 aims to deepen global commitment to a sustainable relationship with nature and to speed up the implementation of global sustainability goals, including Agenda 2030, the Paris Agreement and the Convention on Biological Diversity.

We are proud that UNEP and the Swedish Government Offices have chosen Stockholmsmässan as the venue for this important meeting. We are highly honored to welcome international and Swedish representatives here to our venue,” says Christian Clemens, CEO of Stockholmsmässan.

Later that same week, World Environment Day will be organized on June 5. It is the UN’s main tool for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our planet. This year’s theme, Only One Earth, focuses on the need to live sustainably in harmony with nature and our opportunities to transform to greener lifestyles. There will be a large number of both international and local activities on June 5. Sweden is this year’s host for World Environment Day.

In addition to Stockholm+50, several meetings and activities focusing on sustainability will take place in the spring. As a lead up to the event, Stockholmsmässan is organising the Nordic Sustainability Expo, held on May 17–18, bringing together leading companies, organisations and associations to take on the challenge of accelerating the transition to sustainable business and sustainable lifestyles.
