GBCVB elects The Colonnade Hotel’s David J. Colella 2008 Chairman

This week the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau (GBCVB) announced David J. Colella, Vice President & Managing Director of The Colonnade Hotel, will serve as the 2008 Chairman of the Board of Directors. Colella, a native Bostonian, and a graduate of the Isenberg School of Hospitality & Tourism Management at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst is Vice President & Managing Director of The Druker Company’s three-property hotel division, which includes The Colonnade Hotel, for which he is General Manager, The Midtown Hotel and The Inn at Longwood Medical Center.

Prior to his appointment with The Colonnade Hotel, Colella served as general manager of the Omni Hotel at Independence Park in Philadelphia and the Ambassador East Hotel in Chicago. He also held senior management positions for Omni Hotels in New York, Minneapolis, and Boston. In the early 1980s he was president and CEO of The Levy Organization’s Chicago-based Gaper’s Caterers, the country’s oldest and largest off-site catering company.

Colella is a past Chairman of the Massachusetts Lodging Association and sits on the Advisory Board of the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He is also a member of the Executive Board of the Massachusetts Restaurant Association, and also serves as a board member of the Copley Society of Boston, and Skal International Boston.

Colella has received numerous prestigious industry awards including: Leaders Magazine “Top Hotelier of the Year”; Summit Hotels & Resorts “Mark of Excellence”; Massachusetts Governor’s “Tourism Leadership Award”; American Hotel & Lodging Association’s “Most Valuable Volunteer” and the “Distinguished Alumnus Award” from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
