Londoners tend to splash the cash more while on holiday than people who live elsewhere in Britain, according to a new survey. The average Londoner is happy to splurge £366 in one week, based on a tally of 2,007 people from across the UK. The poll by travelsupermarket.com shows Midlanders are the most careful with their money when they are on a break.
Their average spend of £252 per week is well below the national average of £301. It also seems people are less inclined to go on holiday at all in the current economic climate. The poll found that 45% of people will definitely go away in the next 12 months but 21% are less likely to take a break than they were six months ago.
But the recession is clearly having a positive effect on the UK tourism industry with half of the people surveyed saying they were likely to holiday in this country rather than abroad. And as many as 18% said they will be camping or caravaning this year.
According to Travel Deals Direct, most Brits are heading to Greece this summer to catch some rays. A survey by foreign exchange company Travelex.co.uk also showed that Croatia was the top spot for Britons getting married abroad followed by Egypt, Barbados, Israel and Las Vegas.
