Hong Kong Immigration Department said around 200,000 Hong Kong people, who celebrated moon festival Sunday in the Chinese mainland, are expected to return to Hong Kong Monday via the border crossing at Lowu.

It said fewer people traveled to the mainland this year for the Mid-Autumn festival holidays due to bad weather, thought Hong Kong people have a tradition to celebrate the moon festival in the near province of Guangdong with their families.

Officials said they would open more counters at the checkpoint if necessary to deal with the expected flood of travelers due to the end of a two-day holiday.
