DFW to Madrid service offers new option for American Airlines travelers

American Airlines customers have a new travel option that will conveniently connect two of the world’s most culturally and economically influential cities. American’s launch of a daily nonstop route between Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Madrid- Barajas Airport (MAD) will connect the North Texas area with a more accessible link to the Spanish capital. The route can prove particularly valuable in stimulating tourism in both regions, which in turn can provide economic and cultural benefits to residents as well as travelers.

About 40,000 Spanish passengers per year are projected to use the new Dallas-to-Madrid service, making DFW their gateway to the United States, and the new service is anticipated to bring more than $100 million to the North Texas economy, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

Between the two of them, Madrid and Dallas are home to nearly three dozen Fortune 500 companies, giving them a prestigious position among destinations for business travelers. Madrid and other highly traveled destinations such as Barcelona and Seville also contribute to Spain’s status as the second most visited country in Europe, according to the World Tourism Organization. These facts, coupled with the rich culture and history of both cities, make them ideal destinations for travelers from both sides of the Atlantic.

The DFW-to-Madrid route lays the foundation for an enhanced synergy between American Airlines and its oneworld Alliance partner, Iberia Airlines, with the anticipation that the Department of Transportation will grant the airlines, and oneworld partner British Airways, with antitrust immunity. Madrid-Barajas is the major hub for Iberia Airlines with more than 200 departures per day to nearly 80 destinations, including Athens, Johannesburg, Cairo and Casablanca, to name a few. Once the request is approved, oneworld travelers going to Madrid and beyond will enjoy the benefits of coordinated flight schedules, enhanced mileage rewards, increased travel choices and seamless service.
