Emirates sponsors Australia`s Gold Coast racing

Emirates announced its sponsorship of the Gold Coast Turf Club in Queensland, Australia

Emirates announced its sponsorship of the Gold Coast Turf Club in Queensland, Australia. The substantial two-year agreement makes Emirates the official airline of the Gold Coast Turf Club, as well as naming rights sponsor of horse races on both the Silk Stocking and Prime Minister’s race days. As part of the agreement Emirates will enjoy naming rights to four other horse races held at the Gold Coast Turf Club throughout the year.

In addition, Emirates becomes the naming rights sponsor for Fashions on the Field competitions at both the Magic Millions Carnival and Prime Minister’s Cup Raceday – two of the most prominent events on the Queensland racing calendar.

Emirates Area Manager for Australia Eddie Lim announced the sponsorship agreement at a trackside function attended by high-profile members of the Gold Coast racing and business communities, which included a glamorous preview of Emirates Melbourne Cup racing fashion.

Commenting on the agreement, Mr Lim said the airline was thrilled to be strengthening its ties with Queensland and the Gold Coast through the new sponsorship.

He said: “Emirates is very excited to be sponsoring the Gold Coast Turf Club and we look forward to enjoying an increased presence in the exciting and prestigious racing scene here. We are also delighted to be expanding our strong support of Australian racing to Queensland.”

The sponsorship further strengthens the airline’s ties with the Queensland community and also with Australian horse racing. Next week the Emirates Melbourne Cup will run for the first time, after the airline signed a seven-year partnership with the Victoria Racing Club to become principal sponsor of Australia’s most famous horse race. The airline also sponsors the Australian Jockey Club.

Gold Coast Turf Club Chairman Bill Millican said the club was excited about the agreement and added that Emirates’ sponsorship brought a new level of prestige to the club.

Mr Millican said: “Emirates is an established global brand that represents quality and service, and it also has a proven track record in Australian racing sponsorship. Our relationship with the airline will enable the Gold Coast Turf Club to reach new international markets while also providing additional benefits to our existing programme. We are grateful to Emirates for its support and look forward to a successful partnership.”

Since the launch of its services to Brisbane last year (27 October 2003), Emirates has enjoyed strong support from Queensland travellers. Brisbane has also proven to be a highly popular addition to the airline’s route network with well over 50,000 international visitors travelling to Brisbane on Emirates in the past 12 months.

Operating an all wide-bodied fleet of aircraft to 77 destinations worldwide, Emirates flies daily from Dubai to Brisbane via Singapore. The airline also operates a daily service across the Tasman Sea from Brisbane to Auckland.
