Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) recognized La Guardia Airport as the Richard A. Griesbach Excellence winner in the 2004 Airport Concessions Contest. Nine other airports were recognized for their superior concessions programs. The announcement was made during the ACI-NA Economic Specialty Conference in San Diego.
Those airports receiving recognition include Chicago Midway Airport, Chicago O`Hare International Airport, Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, Halifax International Airport, Indianapolis International Airport, Philadelphia International Airport, Portland International Airport, San Antonio International Airport, and Vancouver International Airport.
La Guardia Airport has consistently performed well in our contest. Last year, its Central Terminal Building took first place for its Food & Beverage Program and this year it took an honorable mention for its Retail/Specialty Program, said Leonard A. Ginn, ACI-NA`s Senior Vice President of Economic and Associate Affairs. The mix of national and local brands combined with its street pricing policy offers passengers and employees a wide array of products and services from which to choose. The redevelopment of the program has met the goals of the airport while also offering consumers choice, variety and quality, he continued.
The contest, which began in 1998, is named for Richard A. Griesbach, a long-time industry professional in airport concession programs from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. The contest is judged by an independent panel comprised of professionals representing the various disciplines reflected in the competition, along with one representative from the previous year`s overall winner. The previous winner of the Griesbach was Philadelphia International Airport.
