One more Indian city added to Changi airport’s network: Amritsar

Singapore Changi Airport has improved its connectivity with India further by adding a new link to Amritsar

Singapore Changi Airport has improved its connectivity with India further by adding a new link to Amritsar, a city in the state of Punjab, situated northwest of India. Amritsar has been the capital of the Sikh religion since the 16th century and the Golden Temple is the most outstanding attraction in the city.

With the inclusion of Amritsar, Singapore is now connected to eleven cities in India by five airlines. The other ten cities are Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Cochin and Trivandrum. Travellers can choose from five carriers operating flights from Changi Airport – Air India, Indian Airlines, Royal Brunei Airlines, Silkair and Singapore Airlines. Collectively, the airlines operate more than 180 weekly passenger flights between Singapore and India.

The new service between Singapore and Amritsar is operated by Singapore Airlines. To celebrate the new link to Amritsar, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore gave out 20,000 free copies of commemorative notebooks printed with the Golden Temple in Amritsar on the front cover to all passengers departing on 1 October 2004.

The thrice-weekly non-stop flights to Amritsar depart Changi Airport every Wednesday at 1445 hours and reach Amritsar at 1800 hours. On Fridays and Sundays, the flights depart Singapore for Amritsar at 1600 hours and reach its destination at 1915 hours.

Amritsar is the second city in India to join Changi Airport’s network this year. The first was Ahmedabad, which Singapore Airlines began mounting services to in July 2004.

Changi Airport is currently served by over 70 airlines providing more than 3,500 weekly scheduled flights to over 160 cities in more than 50 countries.
