A fire alarm in one of the engines of a Boeing 777-200 of Singapore Airlines was activated, forcing the pilots to make an emergency landing at Beijing International airport on Wednesday 01/24/2007 according to Reuters. One hour and 40 minutes after take-off from Beijing airport the flight SQ811 heading to Singapore returned to China’s capital.

For the time being there is no indication that the alarm was really activated by a fire but the pilot responded immediately to the alarm and returned the plane back to Beijing airport according to the airline.

It is still unclear what activated the alarm and ground engineers are inspecting the airplane to find the source of the problem.

227 passengers were on the plane along with 16 crew members. The airline is making necessary arrangements for them to continue their journey.
