Flag carrier returns to daily flight frequencies from 29 October 2023.

Vietnam’s national carrier, Vietnam Airlines, has confirmed that it will increase flight frequencies from London Heathrow to Vietnam to seven flights per week again this winter, with daily services set to resume from 29 October 2023. The Skytrax four star-rated airline will operate four flights per week to Hanoi and three per week to Ho Chi Minh City, all on next-gen Boeing B787-9 Dreamliners.

Vietnam Airlines launched the first ever direct flights linking the UK and Vietnam in December 2011. In 2015, the flag carrier switched its operations from London Gatwick to London Heathrow and rolled out its first new B787-9 Dreamliner on the route, facilitating an increase in frequency which culminated in daily services commencing for the first time on 23 June 2016. After a two-year suspension due to the pandemic, the connection was re-established in June 2022, with daily services first resuming for the winter 2022-2023 schedule.

Phan The Thang, General Manager UK & Ireland, Vietnam Airlines, commented, “Vietnam Airlines made it a key priority to re-establish the connection to the important UK market last year, following the pandemic-enforced suspension of the route. We are proud to have carried approximately 29,000 passengers from Heathrow to Vietnam in just nine months last year, contributing significantly to the tourism recovery in Vietnam. With the resumption of daily services from London confirmed once again for this winter, we are determined to return to pre-pandemic passenger numbers – which peaked at approximately 74,000 from London Heathrow in 2019 – as soon as possible.”

Vietnam Airlines will initially increase the frequency of flights from London Heathrow from three to five flights per week from 1 July, before commencing daily operations from 29 October 2023. Additional newly confirmed services for the remainder of 2023 are available to book now.
