Viva Macau, Macau’s low-fare airline, announced its introductory fare of only MOP1,155 one-way for its route between Macau and Sydney, the gateway to Australia. The airline will fly to Sydney three times a week from August 15, 2007. The non-stop route will be operated by wide-body Boeing 767 aircraft, which offers a two-class configuration.

Viva Macau’s incoming Chief Executive Officer Con Korfiatis said, “We are proud to pioneer flights from Macau to Australia, a country famous for its magnificent sights and great living. By opening a direct link between Macau and Sydney, we continue to grow to be Macau’s first truly international airline.”

The introductory fares for the new route are as low as MOP 1,155 one-way on Star Class and MOP 7,350 one-way on Superstar Class. All fares are exclusive of taxes and surcharges.

Korfiatis said, “Our low fares to fly to Sydney, the renowned international city for leisure, study and living, will not only attract travelers from Macau, but also the neighboring Peal Rive Delta and Hong Kong.”

Further to a media conference that was held in Sydney last month, Korfiatis added that the new route would also enhance the image of Macau as the international destination for leisure, entertainment and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions).

“We have received an enormous response from Australian public and media who are greatly interested in Macau, the Las Vegas of the East. Macau is fast-becoming the hot spot not just in Asia, but the world. We are excited to bring the world to Macau, a beautiful and vibrant city that is the home of Viva Macau.”

The airline is in the midst of a rapid expansion having recently received approval from the Macau government to also fly to Tokyo, Pusan, Phuket, Manila (Clark), and Ho Chi Minh City.
