Corinthia Hotel Lisbon leader in developing best practices for energy saving solutions

The five-star Corinthia Hotel Lisbon, in collaboration with the Portuguese German Chamber of Commerce Training Centre, was selected to take part in an energy saving best practices study aimed at encouraging the use of solar thermal energy in hotels. The project, initiated by engineer Joao Garrido Key Account Executive Portugal of K-Solar Holding BV, saw the participation of Corinthia Hotel Lisbon’s regional chief engineer Pedro Ferreira and his technical team. At the end of the exercise, the team’s proposals were deemed to offer the best solutions for energy saving best practices from among all the participants taking part in the project throughout Portugal.

The proposals put forward by the Corinthia Hotel Lisbon team ensured a reduction of no less than 11% of the hotel’s total energy costs, representing an energy saving potential of up to 70 MHz per year and a CO2 saving potential of 14 ton per year.

The Corinthia Lisbon’s study will now be presented in several UE countries as an example of the best strategy on energy saving in the hotel business and will be included in a brochure produced by the European Energy Manager (EUREM). In a brief comment about his participation in the project, engineer Joao Garrido stated “This has been a truly holistic experience that has honed and improved my analytic skills. The results achieved will result in substantial savings for the hotels and augur well for the future of our planet”.
