Millennium & Copthorne Hotels awarded Best Practice Standards from BSI

Millennium & Copthorne Hotels (M&C) announces that it has been successfully audited against two stringent industry standards by British Standards BSI – ISO 14001:2004 for Environmental Management and BS OHSAS 18001: 2007 for Occupational Health and Safety Management.

The Environment Management System standard recognises organisations that have effectively addressed the balance between reducing their impact on the environment and maintaining profitability.

The Occupational Health and Safety Management standard assesses organisations on their ability to identify and control health and safety risks in the working environment, in order to reduce the potential for accidents, help to ensure legislative compliance and improve performance.

The certifications recognise the work of M&C at its corporate headquarters and at the Copthorne Tara Hotel London Kensington, in improving management systems and processes in these two important areas. The group plans to introduce these practices to its entire hotel portfolio in the UK and continental Europe.

Group Company Secretary Adrian Bushnell said, "M&C’s Responsible Hospitality policy aims to introduce steady improvements in many areas, including the reduction of our environmental impact and making our hotels great places to work as well as stay. These two certifications are an important recognition of our progress, which we are all proud of."

M&C’s UK hotels were awarded the Carbon Trust Standard in 2010, recognising the company’s continuing commitment to measuring and reducing its carbon footprint.
