New eco-chic glacier hotel in West Iceland: Lobely Planet top region for 2016

Nestled in nature on the edge of a glacier in West Iceland, new eco-chic Hotel Husafell offers winter travelers sustainable luxury and easy access to nearby Langjokull glacier and new Into the Glacier experience.

ICELAND – A self-sustainable, glacier-adjacent hotel may not evoke images of luxury, but new 4-star Hotel Husafell offers travelers an upscale oasis of design-centric accommodations twenty minutes from Langjokull glacier in West Iceland, a Top 10 Region to visit in 2016 according to Lonely Planet.

Located 90 minutes from Reykjavik on the edge of the uninhabited interior wildlands, Hotel Husafell is an ideal base to discover glaciers, lava caves, hiking trails, horse riding, Saga history, fishing and Iceland’s hottest new travel experience, Into the Glacier, accessible by free daily shuttle from the hotel.

“Part of what makes Hotel Husafell so beautiful is its dramatic location in Iceland’s Aurora Zone on the doorstep of Langjokull Glacier,” says Unnar Bergthorsson, Manager of Hotel Husafell. “Considering Lonely Planet ranks West Iceland a Top Region to visit in 2016, and newly opened Into the Glacier attraction, there has never been a better time to visit us at Hotel Husafell.”

* Insider tip: When the Northern Lights are shimmering, hotel guests can request access to outdoor thermal hot tubs for optimal views and relaxation.

Inspired by the stunning landscape and local artistry, Hotel Husafell is a striking testament to sustainable design using 100% renewable energy produced on site.  Guests of the 36-room resort-style hotel enjoy complimentary entry to the outdoor thermal pools and hot tubs as well as easy access to the 9-hole golf course offering Midnight Sun tee times in summer.

Nature inspired design
Designed by local architect and 20-year Husafell resident Helgi Hjalmarsson (To Arkitektar), Hotel Husafell features an unobtrusive design in harmony with nature built from eco-friendly materials using sustainable energy. Guestrooms embrace the surrounding nature with large windows and showcase local culture with sheepskin Iceland-design chairs, bath products made with Icelandic herbs, and paintings by world renowned Husafell artist, Pall Gudmundsson.

Glacier-view dining
The on-site gourmet restaurant features floor-to-ceiling windows which provide diners with an epic view of Langjokull and Eiriksjokull glacier, and lush Borgafjordur Valley. Nordic inspired menu owes its flavor and richness to mouth-wateringly fresh ingredients of locally caught seafood, game and high quality produce grown in nearby geothermal greenhouses.
