Two Surrey hotels are undergoing major upgrades following investments totalling £600,000. Leading leisure and hotel management company Legacy Hotels and Resorts is overseeing the major refurbishments at the newly-named Legacy Thatcher’s Hotel in Guildford Road, East Horsley, and the Legacy Farnham Hog’s Back Hotel in Farnham.

The £350,000 refurbishment programme at the Legacy Farnham Hog’s Back will include upgrading the leisure club and one of its main conference and wedding suites.

The gym and changing rooms are also be refurbished and upgraded at the hotel’s newly-named Active Life Health and Leisure Club by the end of January 2014.

A six-figure sum is also being spent on refurbishing The Ballroom and public areas while the gardens will be landscaped.

A £250,000 refurbishment of the Legacy Thatcher’s will see 30 of the 87 bedrooms being upgraded, along with improvements to the Thatchers Restaurant and lounge areas.

Enterprise Wi-Fi is to be installed at both hotels in the coming weeks which will be free for guests to use throughout the hotel including the public areas and bedrooms.

Legacy Hotels has also made key appointments to its senior management team to lead its operations at the two hotels.

Gerry McGee, who joined Legacy Hotels and Resorts 18 months ago after working for Macdonald Hotels for 18 years, has been appointed regional operations manager and general manager of the Legacy Thatcher’s, while Alan Heggie, who has over 30 years’ experience in the industry, has been appointed regional sales manager.

Completing the new-look experienced management team are Katie Walton who has been appointed general manager at the Legacy Thatcher’s Hotel, and revenue manager Ana Freitas and human resources manager Susan Leigh who have been promoted after their departments were combined to improve efficiency across both hotels.

Gerry said the six-figure investments at the two hotels underlined the group’s commitment to its long-term management.

He said: “We are overseeing spending of £600,000 on refurbishing the two properties.

“We are determined to bring these hotels back to their former glory and to become a number one destination for meetings, weddings and social events as well as overnight stays for business and leisure guests inSurrey.

“The hotels are ideal for weddings and both are set to secure 3,000 more covers for Christmas than 12 months ago which is an achievement all the staff should be proud of.

“The Ramada signs have already been replaced with signs for Legacy Hotels and Resorts as we put our stamp on the properties in more ways than one.

“Since we took over the management and operation of the hotels in May we have been encouraged by the numbers of guests who have visited and we aim to attract many more once the refurbishments have been completed.”
