Turkish Ministry of Culture & Tourism shines at The World Travel Awards

The World Travel Awards 2012 rated the Turkish Ministry of Culture & Tourism as Europe’s Leading Tourist Board.

The 19th edition of The World Travel Awards (WTA), also known as the “Oscars of the Travel Industry”, hosted at the new Conrad Algarve, Portugal on Saturday, 6th October 2012 awarded Turkey as “The Best in Europe” in 14 different categories.

The World Travel Awards 2012 rated the Turkish Ministry of Culture & Tourism as Europe’s Leading Tourist Board. The award for Europe’s Leading Cruise Destination went to Izmir, a metropolis in Turkey. The awards also acknowledged Turkey’s hotel sector. Various hotels won awards at the ceremony as listed below:

  • Europe’s Leading All-inclusive Resort: Concorde De Luxe Resort, Antalya
  • Leading All-Suite Hotel: Hotel Les Ottomans, Istanbul
  • Leading Design Hotel: Adam & Eve Hotels, Belek
  • Leading Family Resort: Kemer Resort Hotel, Kemer
  • Leading Golf Resort: Cornelia De Luxe Resort, Belek
  • Leading Luxury Hotel: Mardan Palace, Antalya
  • Leading Luxury Resort: Cornelia Diamond Golf Resort & Spa, Belek
  • Leading New Luxury Hotel: Angel’s Peninsula, Marmaris
  • Leading Presidential Suite: Mardan Palace Antalya Royal Suite, Antalya
  • Leading Spa Resort: Mardan Palace, Antalya.

The World Travel Awards are based on individual votes cast by travel professionals and consumers from over 171 countries to recognize travel destinations and hotels from around the world. Each year, around a million votes are cast, making the WTA brand a globally recognized hallmark of quality.

Over the years, Turkey has developed into a major tourist destination and is now ranked sixth in terms of arrival of foreign tourists at 31.4 million in 2011, of which 74,000 were from India.

In the past, cities in Turkey have claimed various honors based on ratings by international travelers. While Istanbul was voted ‘Destination of the Year’ by readers of Food and Travel magazine, the resort town of Belek was named ‘Best Golf Destination’ at the Golf Journal Travel Awards. The TripAdvisor 2012 Choice Destination Awards rated Istanbul as the fourth best destination in Europe and seventh best destination in the world.

Turkey, which enjoys universal appeal as a holiday destination is also well regarded for its culture, culinary delights, wonderful climate, natural beauty and warm hospitality.
