Interestingly, the Welsh capital also increased by over 13 per cent.
New research by HRS, The Hotel Solutions Provider, has revealed that London is Europe’s most expensive capital to stay in, seeing an increase of more than 10 per cent compared to this time last year.
With average room rates in London reaching nearly £130, this places the UK’s capital ahead of Paris and Copenhagen which both have average room rates of £117 per room (149 euros).

For those after a bargain, the cheapest room can be found in Liverpool which saw a decrease in room rates of over two per cent compared to Q2 2013, with average room rates totalling an average of £72 per night.
Overall, UK hotel rates increased in the past year, reflecting growth in the UK economy.
Jon West, Managing Director of HRS for the UK and Ireland, said: “Thanks to the economic recovery, tourism is picking up again and this is reflected in the price increase of hotel rooms in the capital.”
London, Copenhagen and Paris are the most expensive destinations in Europe
With an increase of more than 10 per cent on last year, London has stolen the top spot from Copenhagen which now is on a par with Paris, both averaging 149 euros per room per night.
After London, the largest increase in room rates was seen in Lisbon (96 euros), Copenhagen (149 euros) and Amsterdam (139 euros), where the room rates increased by 17, 11 and five per cent respectively.
City travellers found the most inexpensive room rates in Warsaw – averaging just 72 euros. Research also showed that visitors to Budapest, Prague and Berlin can take advantage of moderate room rates and maximise business travel expenditures.
Istanbul, Oslo and Stockholm have seen drops in room rates in the last 12 months, where room rates decreased by an average of 12 per cent.
New York is the global frontrunner, followed by Washington and Boston
Hotel room rates decreased in around two thirds of international cities. Hotel owners in New York set their rates at an average of £159 per night, followed by Washington (£137) and Boston (£134). For one night’s stay in New York, travellers could have booked nearly three nights in Shanghai (£53).
Whilst it is the city with the most expensive room rate, New York has seen a decrease of over two per cent. Bangkok saw a dramatic decrease of 23 per cent, followed by Seoul (14 per cent) and Tokyo (13 per cent). Meanwhile, room rates in San Francisco increased by 17 per cent and Dubai by 10 per cent.
