Washington Square Hotel updates rooms, adds penthouse, celebrates restaurant anniversary.
NEW YORK – The Washington Square Hotel has the distinction of being the only independently owned hotel in NYC that’s been continuously operating as a hotel since 1902. One of the few remaining family-owned hotels in New York City, the Washington Square Hotel marks its 110th anniversary this month. As the only hotel located on famed Washington Square Park, the Art Deco-styled property has become an icon in Greenwich Village.
This year, to celebrate the anniversary, the Paul family has made a number of updates to the hotel’s rooms, including new energy efficient windows and air conditioning in the three story annex building, as well as a new Penthouse suite. Coinciding with the hotel’s 110th anniversary is the 20th anniversary of its award- winning North Square restaurant. The restaurant will celebrate with a two-week-long special menu in November.
Since opening its doors in 1902, as the Hotel Earle, the Washington Square Hotel has been a home away from home for guests ranging from Ernest Hemingway to Bob Dylan. A family affair for nearly 40 years, the Pauls and their dedicated staff welcome all guests with warm service and genuine hospitality.
“We’ve made so many changes and improvements to the hotel since taking over in 1973, but it is our staff and service that make the hotel a success,” says CEO Judy Paul. “We’re Village-centric!
